That is enough to get started.

Turning Police Badge Artwork Into a Coin
A badge can look sharp on a screen but lose detail once it is reduced to coin size. Before production, we adjust the artwork so the important parts stay clear and readable.
Design for the Actual Coin Size
A 1.75-inch coin is about 44.45 mm across, while a 2-inch coin is about 50.8 mm. That is not much space for a badge, department name, motto, badge number, and additional text.
Instead of trying to fit everything in, we focus first on the elements that make the badge recognizable, such as the shield shape, department name, center seal, eagle, or star.
Send the Best Artwork You Have
AI, EPS, and SVG files are ideal because they can be resized without losing sharpness. They also make it easier to separate small lettering, borders, ribbons, seals, and other badge details.
No vector file? That is fine. We can also work from a JPG, PNG, patch, old coin, or clear photo of the badge.
Some Details May Need to Be Simplified
Very thin lines can merge together, small lettering can become hard to read, and closely spaced metal areas may lose definition.
We may slightly widen borders, simplify minor background details, or adjust spacing while keeping the original badge identity intact.
Send Official Color Codes When Available
If your department uses specific Pantone or PMS colors, include those with the artwork. That gives us a more reliable production reference than simply asking for a color such as “dark blue.”
If no color codes are available, we can match from your badge, logo, or patch and show the colors in the digital proof for approval.
We Check the Design Before Production
Before the coin goes into production, we review small text, metal separation, relief, spacing, and the balance between the front and back.
- Is the smallest text still readable?
- Are the badge edges and key details clear?
- Do adjacent colors have enough metal separation?
- Does the relief work at the finished size?
- Is too much information competing with the main badge?
The goal is not to copy a badge image directly onto metal. It is to keep the department identity while making sure the finished coin looks clear, balanced, and practical to produce.
Always review badge artwork at the final coin size before approving small text and fine details.

Yes. If you’re authorized to use your department badge, seal, or unit emblem, send us the artwork and we can adapt it for the coin design.
We’ll provide a digital proof for review before production begins.
Is there a minimum order for police challenge coins?
No. We don’t have a minimum order quantity.
However, because custom coins require a mold setup fee, orders of 50 pieces or more usually offer a better price per coin.
What are police challenge coins made from?
Most of our custom police challenge coins are made from zinc alloy, which works well for detailed shapes, raised metal, enamel colors, and 2D or 3D designs.
We can recommend the right material, plating, and finish based on your artwork and specifications.
Can the front and back have different designs?
Yes. You can place the department badge on one side and use the other for a motto, officer information, event details, memorial text, or another design.
Custom edge options such as rope, reeded, or diamond-cut edges are also available.
How long does it take to make custom police challenge coins?
Standard production usually takes about 20 days after the final artwork is approved.
